I lifted my 1981 CJ-7 about 6", 4" suspension and 2" body. I am trying to find drive shafts for it that is used. Maybe off of a junked out truck. I have the measurments for what I need and I am willing to cut down on that is too long(that would be easiest). I just need it to be a fixed yoke and the right size yoke. My length measurments are for the front it is 32" and for the back it is 26 3/4" with a 6" slide (3" in and 3" out).:brickwall
I think used may be hard to find, but check EBay. I would look for a Tom Woods shaft. These are generally the best, and sometimes your only for option for having such an extreme lift.
What is a normal(?) cost for the lengthening? Not to hijack your thread, but I gotta have the front cut and the back made longer, from the MORE mounts relocating the engine 1.5 inches forward.
Called the nearest "reputable" shop that does this today (it was a snow day and they let us stay home), and was slightly surprised by the estimated cost, which does include balancing.
4" is a pretty common suspension lift, not extreme. Check with local shops to see what they charge...some places are more expensive than others so the pricing I get means nothing in your neck of the woods. Question of the day...on your rear shaft, are you sticking with a standard shaft and presumably running a t-case drop and axle shims? Since you need a new/modified shaft anyway, this would be the time to get setup with a CV rear shaft (using one from an Explorer and having it cut down is a fairly common practice) and dump the t-case drop.

I usually pride myself in my "search prowess", however, I have not been able to find any threads on the explorer CV shaft modification (except for some TJ ones). Do you have any links (or better keywords) to find any write-ups? Thanks a lot in advance!
Search over on JU's CJ forum, been covered there a good bit. I forget the year range now, it's 4WD and IIRC it's the front shaft...I've got one sitting in the garage for when I get back to working on my CJ-7.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
