Does this seem wierd

i bought my car 2 years ago from some guy who "took care" of it. well anyways, this guy changed the oil once and put the wrong oil filter on (i have '79 jeep with a '81 engine, he put the '79 filter on). well 8 months ago the oil filter fell off of my car while i was going down the interstate. i only went about 1/4 mile before realizing and stopping my car. once i put new oil in it ran fine. last week my engine started making a ticking noise and i found out that i had bad lifters. they went bad because the oil pressure inside my engine is all off wack. i am now having to replace my engine. does it seem wierd that all this is just now happening from an event 8 months ago?

Let me get this straight...you bought the Jeep 2 years ago and 8 months ago the oil filter he (the guy you bought it from) put on fell off?? Are you telling us you didn't change the oil/filter for over a 16 month period??!!! Did I read this wrong...if I didn't, I think the problem is your oil broke down as a result of your neglect! Thats what happens to engines when you don't maintain them properly.
Can we get the S.P.C.J. (Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Jeeps) in on this one...we need to take this Jeep to a shelter, until we find him a properly fitted owner!!!

Well, the first year i had my car i was 15 a was not able to drive my car. within that 16 month period i had only put 2000 miles on my car! and the reason the oil filter fell off was because the '79 oil filter would screw on only one thread, which i found out when i tried to replace it once it had fallen off.

by the way, what the hell was the point of that comment. i am a new driver, not only new to Jeeps, but also new to cars. i love my car, but since i am young, my step-father has been telling me what to and not to do to my car. you dont know half the story and i would appreciate it if you would give me advise not sarcastic comments making fun of my problem. anyways, when i got my Jeep checked out to see what was wrong with it, they said it was going bad because of a LOSS of oil that had happened in the past. NOT from a lack of taking care of my car.

Besides, i have gone from a point where i new nothing about any car to a point where, i believe, i know a great deal about them. I joined this forum to help me with what i did not know so that i could broaden my knowledge of my Jeep, SO I COULD TAKE BETTER CARE OF IT. so if you would please give me some sound advise, in order to keep it in working condition, and away from "S.P.C.J.", i would appreciate it.

THANK YOU

Easy killer, I guess I just figured EVERYONE knew how and when to change the oil.
BTW you posted on the forum to ask for advice, maybe its not what you wanted to hear, but now you know what the problem was/is.

Thank you for saying that!!

Anyway, what happened, or could have happened. Is the lose of oil 8 months ago, hurt the engine majorly, but didnt wear everything to the point of hurthing it then. 8 months later, and some more wear and now it is worn out. But please stop calling it a car.

LOL, hey Scott,

I think Jeep DOES now make a "car", LOL. I shouldn't really say anything because it could be accused as "flaming", so I won't mention what model I am talking about. (I think we all know what model it is, however, lol).

4x4NV, first of all, welcome to jeepin'.
I think your jeep just got bad mojo from being called a car.
(My wife used to call both my Jeep and my pickup cars.)
She hexed both in the process
Tough luck on the engine, but at least now you know what you got.

well anyways, it turns out that i was able to find a 258 for fairly cheap in a Jeep graveyard. would it be worth it to buy this engine, or the whole car for the matter of it being cheaper, and rebuild it, or should i just buy a newer one.
