I'm not concerned with modifiying the striker, just want to know if the size/shape and hangers will work.
I have an opportunity to get some good condition half hard doors at a great price.

I'm pretty sure that the door opening is the same; however, I know for sure that the latch is different.

I have no idea if the hinges are the same.

I've seen a thread somewhere that someone had modified the strikers and used TJ doors. I'll see if I can find it. I believe they used a TJ roll bar as well so they could use the top from a TJ as well.

My guess would be no. The doors with the paddle handles that work between CJs and YJs go from 1982-1995 and do not include any TJ doors. The openings are not the same and the doors themselves are slightly different dimensions.

It will require changing the striker inside the Jeep if you want to use YJ half doors but I think it would require tub modifications to get TJ half doors to work.

Hmmmm, so the article Jp magazine did on using a TJ top and doors on a YJ must be a bunch of made up hooey.

There are several examples of them being used on YJ's (and for our purposes we can assume they will work on CJ's as well). The only catch would be that the older CJ tubs (I think pre '80 or '81) had a different pillar support where the striker is bolted to. (hence the reason there are two different types of strikers for those converting to YJ doors) So if that support is different enough to not allow you to mount the TJ strikers then, no, those doors will not work. But that is about the only thing that would prevent you from using them.

Striker aside (that can be changed or modified at the tub), my main concern would be the seal and tub shaped at the seal...the YJ and CJ uses a sloped or angle of about 45 degrees, while the TJ uses a step down of two 90 degrees.....damn it....I'll go take pics....give me a few minutes.

typical "with enough fabrication anything will work" post

I don't know that the early cj7 tubs are different enough that it won't work... you'd probably have to get creative though

The Inca Gold doors are my 03 TJ Rubicon and the orange doors are 95 YJ doors on my 83 Scrambler

The only interchangable doors are CJ7 and YJ (1995 and below), except for the early CJ's (80 or 81 and below IIRC) that have the lever handles.

How Too fit CJ/YJ doors on a TJ - ORJ4x4

http://www.greatlakes4x4.com/showthread.php?p=2175707

I realize this is putting CJ doors on a TJ but its the same idea and if one can go one way you can definitely fit the TJ doors to a CJ. Obviously some modifications are going to be required.

Just read article from the link above, Screw that....just use TJ doors on a TJ and CJ/YJ doors on a CJ/YJ. I feel the same way about the CJ/YJ top interchange...just they fit on the side rails, doesn't mean they work right and isn't a big rig job when it comes to the tailgate and liftgate.

Did you see what JP had to do to make the doors work? And they still weren't "right". I've never seen a write-up yet where they were "right" when done.

So no, the doors won't interchange, without quite a bit of work....not worth it.
