i think those are for really radical cams, that dont produce enough vac at idle.

Most CJ's don't have them.
Now if you are talking the gas tank and carb float bowl vent, the charcoal canister, yes you need it or you have to put up with raw gas fumes. It is also needed to balance the flow to the stock PCV valve which controls engine sludge.

My last CJ7, an 83, and my current 85CJ7 both have them. Neither were hooked up. What are they for ?

Usually for a flavor of emissions controls I believe. I think things like cruise control would use one also. YJ's have them for the vacuum front axle control.

I did follow them here. Could not make out what they did. Looks like it helps the idle of the carb.

I never had a vacume can or charcoal can on mine, runs good and i dont really smell the gas fumes, its the exaust fumes that get me from having straight pipes with no cats or mufflers

From the factory my vacuum reservoir was connected to the solenoids on top of the valve cover that controlled the Pulse Air system. The axle disconnect on my YJ did not use the reservoir, only a straight manifold vacuum line to the transfer case, and then to the front axle. After removing the non-functioning Pulse Air system I reused the reservoir for the axle disconnect... it seems to connect a little quicker but it was pretty reliable before hand so I'm not sure if it made a difference.

Well the emissions are out, I will probally just cap those two lines off and ditch the can. I still plan on keeping the charcoal canister. I have heard that you could replace part of the filter on the bottom but I can't find it, any ideas?

vacuum reservior can
Mine is "not stock",but it stores a vacuum to operate the power brakes if the motor should stall.
It's nice to have some brakes (one or two pumps of the pedal beats, none everytime) ![]() |

is that what the can does, provides extra vacuum to the booster?
also, is the charcoal canister rebuildable, i mean can you change that filter like stuff on the bottom like some say? if so with what/ how? |
