Jeep CJ 1976- 304 Removed the timing chain cover and observed the distributor In place. I saw something that did not look right. The pin directly below the shaft gear was out to the hole to the edge of the gear. It may have contacted the mating gear on the camshaft. Is this correct or has the pin shifted out the installation hole. Also, to replace the distributor gear and the mating gear on the camshaft do you have to purchase matching gears.
Should be dead in the middle. Odd that these pins are on the move. I just had the pin in the upper part of my distributor come out and wipe out the pickup.
You have to replace the cam to change that gear, they are not mated, both just need to be in decent shape.
the pin should be centered.you do need to replace both gears at the same time!the cam gear does come off.if you dont replace them both the dist gear will get chewed up.than start over.you can get the gears from summet.you want to replace them at the same time.if you replace the dist. you can use the old gear on the new dis.been there done that.
yes the v8 cam gear bolts on so they can be removed and replaced.
