Difference in old and new Dana axles ?

Is there any difference in the new "old " model Dana axles and the old Dana's? Specifically what I mean is, do the Dana 30 and Dana 44 under my '75, have the same specs and build as the ones on todays Jeeps ( besides the coil vs. leaf changes)?
Just curious because it may be easier to get parts if they are interchangeable.

The newer Dana 30's used in Wranglers are high-pinion, so there's little to nothing you can use from them. The Dana 44 rears would be very similar (other than width and wheel bolt pattern).

I don't know the specific year,,,,but some of the old Dana 44s had coarse, 19 splined axle shafts.....I know postal jeeps etc had these.....not sure about CJ5 44s, though.
The later 44s are usually 30 spline

The Dana 30 in '87-'95 YJs is high-pinion, but '97+ TJs use low-pinion. Also XJs used h-p until they switched to l-p, probably also in '97. Not sure how much is comptable though.

IIRC the 97/up TJ D30s use a larger axle u-joint than the ones in your '75 D30, although I'm not exactly sure what year the change took place.. Of course, other differences include wheel mounting stud pattern, longer axles (wider stance) and disc brakes vs. your drums...
but as far as the ring/pinion/carrier go, they should be the same.

The D44 in your '75 is a 30-spline flanged axle. This would be the same internally as a TJ D44... but again your axles are much more narrow than the TJ, and have a different wheel mounting stud pattern.
Lots more info and many other '75 CJ5 owners on the Intermediates forum at www.earlycj5.com

The TJ Dana 30 is a low pinion design as stated by others but it also differs from other 30's in that the pinion uses a crush tube to maintain bearing preload.
