Determining amount of Lift on CJ5 ??

How do I go about determining the amount of lift on my CJ5?
It came with 36x14.50's on it with a 3" body lift.

I am in the rebuild stage of a full frame off restoration.
Finally done with frame, axles, new brake and fuel lines.

The shackles I removed measure 5.5" from the centers of the bolt holes.

Is there a measurement on spring curve to go by?

This CJ came with a new 4" Superlift lift kit including shocks amd drop pitman arm still in the box.

I am debating whether or not to install it or sell it
I do not want to get into t-case drops or CV shafts.

Planned use, mostly highway and light offroad.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have a bunch of pics, not sure how to post them.
I think that there must be some lift in the springs as well the 3" body lift to accomidate the 36's.
The link from the pitman arm is at a pretty steep angle, 3-4" above the parallel line of the centerlink.

How do I post some pics?

I think the standard shackle is 4" center to center. Yours is 5.5"..1.5 longer than stock...therefore they give you 3/4 " of lift that way. Are the springs still under the axle? Fill in your jeep info so we know more about it....

Its probably already got a 4" kit under it..........I've got a 4" kit and run 33's easily

4" suspension + 3" body + 3/4" shackles ???? Thats my uneducated guess.......anyone else?

Did I say 4"ctc??? I meant 3"ctc.....Sorry, it was late

That makes them 2.5" longer than stock, 1 1/4" of lift...

I have just about three inches of lift on my CJ5 and I run 33x12.5 and they are look and feel right no rubbing but then again my procomp doesn't seem to have that much articulation.

If I were you I would get rid of the body lift and install the superlift.

I installed the shocks that came with that 4" Superlift and as you might be able to tell from the pics, they are too long. I only have about 4" of travel before they bottom out.

With the weight of the engine and tranny, they lose another inch.

Is there a way to measure the springs?

Can I install the 4" lift without getting into t-case drops or cv joints?

You've got a 1 1/4" shackle lift (stock shackles are 3" hole to hole, not 4") plus a 3" body lift...the springs look like they may be stock, definitely no more than 2 1/2" lift. 36" Swampers don't make for good highway tires...plan on dropping down to the 32"-33" range in an AT or milder MT tread, radials of course. I'd lose the lift shackles, it'll improve your highway handling & stability and consider running wheel spacers for additional stability as well as an anti-sway bar.

Your welcome.
you have to have 50 posts and be a member for a month to post pictures.
Here is my cj5 with 2.5 lift leafs (rancho) and 1/2 lift daystar shackles.
I second the lift shackles not being one of the best things to do if you ride on public roads or use your rig for daily driving.
4 inch with the 32-33's would be sweet!!

Jeepskate,

I appreciate the info.

I am going to sell this one as soon as I am done. So not much highway use or any other with this one for me.

I just got my hands on a great running all orig 79 CJ5 w/304 that I can't wait to get into.

What kind of issues will I get into with the 4" Superlift?

I agree that it needs a swaybar. I've been looking for one.
What length disconnects will I need with the 4" lift?
