Dedicated tail light grounds?

What is the best way to add a dedicated ground to tail lights?

I have been chasing electrical gremlins for a few days now and since I have the tail lights apart, I figure it best to add dedicated grounds while I am in there….

Run a length of 10 gauge wire from the battery to the rear of the Jeep and attach it to the body. Then use that as a point to run your grounds to for your lights and your fuel tank sending unit.

I just attach a ring terminal to the mounting bolts on the lights using an internal star washers and brass nuts, The terminal is crimmped and soldered onto a wire and run to the dedicated ground point.

Some people run a ground wire internally and seal up the hole the wire passes through.

Do you mean running a ground wire from the socket to one of light assembly mounting bolts?

John is saying to run a wire from a good ground and attach it to the back side of one of the brake light mounting bolts.

As he mentioned, you can also run a wire internally and attach it to a mounting bolt right on the metal backing plate. The whole point is to get a good ground to that plate.

That is basically what I have done. I have a Ground Bus Bar mounted on the firewall by the battery and ground wires branch out from there to various points around the Jeep. They include the Starter Solenoid, Headlights and Headlight relays, Dash panel for the instruments and another ground wire to the OEM fuel sending unit where the rear taillights are grounded to also.

I have "0" electrical problems and everything works as intended.

I did something similar to Keith but I Purchased a brass bolt and hardware and attached it to my inner finder. YOu could always run a single wire to the back and then use a bus bar like keith to attach the lights, and fuel sender to it.

I have a brass stud grounding post for the fender, and then about a foot inside the rear of the frame I welded a ss. bolt that I'll run the 10ga wire back to, and use that as my rear grounding post.

I have 4 bus bars like Keith, 1 at each corner since I'm all 'glass. Front is for reciver mounted winch ('glass nose tilts forward) lights etc, 1 behind the dash for panel, lightbar, and top of rollcage winch mount. And a bus bar for the rear lights, winch etc.
All of my buss bars have a wire to the negative on the starter.
I also run a wire from there to the frame.
Each of the 4 buss bars have a light/medium duty piece chain that has at least 4"-6"s of slack running on the ground. When it's raining my lights are alot brighter and the stereo sounds alot better to.
