Dash light wiring question

Last night I installed new speakers in my 86 CJ7. I was having a hard time getting the driver side original speaker to come out because of the lack of room and accidently ripped a black wire which I'm assuming is a ground the the dash lights.

When I follow the ripped wire back it goes to the harness wrapped up in tape and goes above the fuse box. Any clues on to what it goes to so I can reattach and get my dash lights working again? The ground for the light box above the light switch is still connected so I know it isn't that one. My entire dash is dark though speedo and all.

Still haven't found my problem, but while rummaging under my dash i found a wire plug that wasn't plugged into anything. Not even sure it goes to anything but heres a picture of it

Anyone know what it goes to?

I'm still trying to figure out where the black wire goes. I have been trying to find where it needs to be for a few days but just can't see anywhere it can go. Just a lonely black wire coming from the big taped up braid of wires that goes into the firewall...

Just hook the black wire back up to ground.

That plug is for optional OEM Fog Lights.

I have tried hooking it up to a ground, but had no luck. It has a silver connector on the end that broke partially, I'm assuming it is a ground but the other end is already grounded and I need to hook it to whatever device it goes to for the device to be grounded.

Guessing without a pic, but maybe for the E-brake indicator light?

You mention dash lights not working so it is possible that the light switch is not grounded to the dash.

Light switch needs to be grounded only to turn on the courtesy or dome light.
It doesn't have to grounded to turn the dash lights or headlights on.

My mistake. I remember having an issue with one of the functions of the light switch not working and it was in fact the under dash courtesy lights not working until I pulled the switch and used a star washer to mount and make a good ground connection.
