dana 300 to sr-4

I'm re assembling my jeel and when u took the transfer case off of the tranny I think there was rtv between the 2 is there supposed to be a gasket?

I had zero luck with the paper gaskets. Put it together with the correct torque and it leaked. Pulled it all back out used RTV...no leaks.
