I bought a 1980 CJ7 project jeep that is missing the tail housing off the transfer case. The housing is the short one. Does anyone know where I could get a short dana 300 tail housing?

Tough to find...my stumble across one on Ebay or one of the various online Jeep forums like this one from someone who has upgraded to a heavy duty 32-spline unit. Try asking around for one on www.pirate4x4.com...harder core wheelers there who might be more likely to have done the upgrade. Obviously the upgrade is an option for you too...

Will a long one work? I'm getting ready to swap in my front and rear 32 spline outputs and 4 to 1 gears sometime in the next week... I'll have the "long" version tailshaft and stuff left over... would let it go for cheap.. maybe $30 plus shipping (would include either a good u bolt style 1310 yoke or 1310 CV yoke.. your choice)... anyhow.. figured I'd toss that out there before I list it on eBay
