Dana 300 installation
I am putting the transfer case back into an 81 CJ7 and am having trouble with the shift linkage. I didn't think I moved the shift shafts while I had it out, but it is possible. Presently, one shaft is further in than the other and I am having trouble installing the link with the two clevis pins. Do these shafts move in tandem in all ranges or are there ranges where one shaft is further in than the other? I cannot move either shaft in or out so I assume I must take off the bottom cover and move the shift forks to get the clevis pins in. Is this correct? Any help is appreciated.

Yeah when you're in 2WD the left rod is further in than the right side. (Drivers / Passengers)
The way it works is like this: The Driver's side rod controls the rear wheels.... in = high gear middle = neutral out = low gear The passenger's side rod controls the front wheels... in = high gear middle = neutral out = low gear So in 2WD the left side is in, while the right side is in the "middle" position...

sometimes if you can't get the shift-shaft to move freely, you can rotate the rear yoke a little and it will usualy let you move the shaft.
