Attention: This thread was created by me so that there is a place to learn about what parts you need to run a Double Cardan driveshaft. Double Cardan and CV are not the same thing.

let me be the first to say thanks! doing a 300 install and your post was awesome!

maybe add some more info about the 300. like 4:1 upgrades, outshaft upgrades.

Is that part number for the Dana 20 CV yoke a 10 spline or 26 spline? The 26 spline version can use the same yoke as the Dana 300.

There are two spline counts available on the Dana 20.

Please change it to call the yoke a double-cardan and not a CV so that people learn the correct terminology. A Constant Velocity joint is something different. This is just like calling HP gears and axles "reverse rotation" (also wrong). Vendors calling it a CV yoke is just laziness and continues to perpetuate the problem.

This is how NAXJA Midwest Chapter elected officials like to treat their resident users and former multi-year supporters.

if you are going to make an info post be absolutely correct is important. agreed.

i would also add info as to hooking up a dana to a ax15 and other common jeep tranys. i've learned that even though the bolt pattern is correct i still need a clocking ring and maybe a spacer to bolt mine up since the ax15 shaft is too long. i still don't know the correct answer to this.

I'd keep it as just yoke information. Make separate threads about low gears for each transfer case or transmission compatibility. That way the threads will be indexable if they are added to the FAQs.

I know what you mean about the double cardan v. CV info. However, all the auto parts places have them listed as CV. If you only type double cardan here, and a newbie walks into the auto parts store asking for a double cardan, the staff are going to look at him like dumb cows. I know, it happened to me. Hell, when I say i need parts for a CJ7 they ask me what make it is. Lets just try to make sure we know there's a difference and leave the part info the same as it is in the stores.

That's a very good point as is the one about Double Cardan only thread. Advice taken.

That's called "planning for failure" and those people should be fixed.

Yes. You can buy just the pieces you need or the entire assembly. The trick is that it won't be connected to a driveshaft if you buy a new one in the store and you'll have to weld it on. This is why most people opt for buying a used DC driveshaft longer than what they need so that they can have the pinion end shortened to suit their purposes and just rebuild the DC that is already on it.
