Dana 30 Gear Ratio

I have a 1979 Dana 30 front axle. What was the the gear ratio on this? 3.54? I'm swapping in a ford 9" rear and want to match them up. If I went with 3.71's in front and rear, are they going to scream going down the highway?

The stock Dana 30 can only go down to 3.54s unless you replace the carrier IIRC... so its definitely not lower than that Should be a tag on the front with a code or even the ratio on it...

... and no, it won't scream going from 3.54s to 3.70s...

You'd probably still be comfortable around 60 with those in 4th gear (the 3.70s)

The Dana 30 has two different carriers - 3.73&up and 3.54&down.

The AMC 20 also has two carriers - 3.07&up and 2.73&down.
