D300 questions.
Sorry to bother you CJ guys, but figured I would go to the source. I just picked up a 300 TC for use in my YJ. I have a Ford 9" rear and Dana 44 for front. My questions are:
1. On the front of TC behind shifter bracket there is a sensor?/switch? with a single prong on it? What is this? 2. Next to that there seems to be a hole about same size. Is this for anything important? 3. My tranny adapter from my 231 seems to bolt right up to 300. But I notice the 300 has a integral bearing on input shaft, and my housing also has one. Should I leave both? Sorry for the stupid sounding questions, but I bought from someone who had no idea what it even was. And did not come with anything attached to these areas.

I hpoe the front Dana 44 you got is a chevy or at least a passenger side drop axle, thats what the D300 is setup for. YJ's came with Driver side drop front axles. So unless you get a D300 flip kit you are looking at a headache...
1) the single prong sticking out is to activate the 4WD light on your speedometer... Not sure if it works with a YJ setup 2) I THINK (and dont quote me) that hole is for the TCase vent 3) No idea on that one buddy....I dont know anything about the 231 tcases... but I would guess you dont need both...

Yes I know it's passenger drop. D44 is from Scout w/ pass. diff. I have vent line on rear of TC. Didn't think there would be 2. 2nd hole? is not through, its seems to be an inset or something. There is a bottom to it but seems soft, and there looks like a couple threads above it (haven't gotten it clean enough there yet). Seems to hold degreaser though, it doesn't seem to drain into TC.
Don't guess it will hurt to have both bearings, they don't seem to interfere with each other. |

As stated the single terminal plug is for the 4wheel drive light. The one next to it is not used and usually has some sort of threaded aluminum plug for the hole. The one in mine comes on and off with your fingers.

One hole is for the 4 wheel drive light and both holes are there for access to install the spring and balls for the shifter detents.
Northwest Fab sells plugs for those holes (its a weird thread) |
