custom dash ideas

I was about to start installing some new gauges, but like all other projects it has morphed a bigger one. I've seen some pretty cool, functional custom dash's(?), so I thought a thread with ideas or pics might be in order.

Lets see 'em!

nice! what are the switches on the left of the column? Can you still drop your windshield?

CopperCJ7 12-28-2008 12:55 PM

The switches are for "Fog" "Off Road" and "Rear" lights. I got all of that made at a trophy shop.

Yes, I can still drop my windshield. All it takes is removing two screws (on each side) with a T-handle Allen wrench tool.

Here's another dash (someone else made) that I thought was interesting...

Did you try searching this forum? There's been a few dash pic threads in the past.

x2!

BTW, if you see a dash you like, before you run off to build one like it, ask the poster if their defroster still works - many people put gauges or something in the center above the stock gauge locations, which often interferes with the defroster ducting. I've seen many of these where people don't plan ahead and end up without a defroster because of the stuff in the new dash :)

LOL I got REALLY lucky because I used the angle spacers it made it so the back of the gauge barely made it. I freaked me out at first but I solved it. There's also a guy somewhere on JF who made his own "custom" ductwork for this very reason.

EDIT: Found the Ductwork pic:

Is that a stop watch on the far side near the glove box? And where did you get the dash pad?

No, it's an altimeter. As for the dash pad, I'm assuming you mean the "Jeep" dash pad and I got it at Morris 4x4. If you mean the pad on the cage bar, that was purchased at Summit.

I plan on building a CJ8 buggy in the future and will use these gauges to look like an airplane's cockpit:

Now that would be something that I would like to see. That would be a great project.
