Craigslist CJ woes and good steals

There are plenty of steals out there today (meaning the seller is trying to steal your money).

Craigslist notes for today, the 14th of June...

Maybe I should start a column or write a book on how NOT to post on CL.

Item #1: http://fayetteville.craigslist.org/cto/2438950799.html
-You've been trying to sell your jeep since January and you're still asking the same price.
-A "Chevy 350 fuel injected engine" does not add 3-5k worth of value to your jeep.
-"Great jeep with everything already done to it." Ok great... you did "everything" except the details like painting the valve covers or even spending the extra $40 for nice new ones. Even a rattle can job would look better. If he just did that and cleaned the engine compartment he'd definitely get more inquiries.

Item #2: (Pictures attached) http://fayetteville.craigslist.org/cto/2425850604.html

-Again, just because your jeep has (balding) 36" "mickey t's" does not mean your CJ is worth over 2k. Anyone that overlooks that amount of rust for $2500 probably deserves the jeep. You completely lost the body bushing back there in front of the left rear tire. How do you fill this thing up with gas anyways?

Item #3: http://fayetteville.craigslist.org/cto/2438918238.html
-Side note: The 80s wreaked havoc on everything. Even the legendary Corvette was not immune to the 80s.

Item #4: http://fayetteville.craigslist.org/cto/2438916125.html
-Easy... An S-10 is NOT a hotrod. I don't care if there is a gigantic (real, functional) blower sitting atop 4 Holley 4 barrels on a 525 cubic inch motor. It in no way can ever be a true hotod.

Item #5: http://fayetteville.craigslist.org/cto/2438833334.html
-The easiest one of all. If you actually talk like this you don't deserve a vehicle... even if you have "K"-sh money.
-$2468... really? This is probably just you punching in numbers, but if you actually added up your "CASH" money and this is what you came up with then apparently you're the guy whole stole the 2 ATVs from an honest contributing member of society that posted this thievery on the very same CL yesterday and $2468 is all you could scrape up from the quick sale at the fairgrounds.

Hopefully I didn't offend anyone. I do like (some) of these vehicles. They're just asking way too much. I'm on the verge of just buying a CJ from the west coast and shippng. I'd still be way ahead. Thanks east coast for representing. (This was just from the first 30 posts or so on CL.) Anyone else see some good "steals" out there?

Yea I would rather "patch" my muffler than get a new one anyway. So the trans went 7 years ago... twice?

"75mph+ on the highway" with a 2.5? Sure... maybe on a trailer behind a tow rig. Wow... good one Chooster

"Needs:
Muffler patching/repairs
5th Gear does not work, it went on me 7 yrs ago, I had it repaired, 7 yrs ago and went again. . ..have been driving it for 7 + yrs with no 5th gear. Goes 75+mph on highway no problem, don't even really need it with the over sized off road tires."

Picked up a tire carrier that bolts to rear frame cross member for $20 the other day. Very solid and worth way more I think. The good deals are out there.

Yup, but you sure have to filter through a bunch of crap to find them!
I made out, but I knew EXACTLY what I was looking for...

Oh yes. Don't get me wrong, there are some great deals on CL. I'm just poking fun at the bad ones.

Ok, I'm curious what the brown plastic thing on top of the motor is. A prototype Commodore to run the engine? That black part even looks like a floppy-disc drive.

BTW, I picked up my '80 CJ7 last year for $900 off CL. So far I've had to replace the fuel filter and the speedo cable.

Two different listings for this. I have never seen trees like this in central Il. Looks like palm trees to me.

http://peoria.craigslist.org/cto/2426895876.html
http://peoria.craigslist.org/cto/2425485181.html

And a higher price on the later add. By $24.

And then there's this. http://peoria.craigslist.org/cto/2357612832.html

These are great. I mess with this guy all the time. Posts up ridiculous prices all over the place. I'll send him emails saying I want to come by tomorrow to drive it and hand him cash and it's always a story like "It is currently in a warehouse in FL".
