Coolant gushing from radiator

I just replaced the thermostat on 1985 CJ7 4.2. after installing and replacing coolant, I started her up and left the cap off to monitor the coolant level. About 10 minutes later coolant began gushing out of radiator. Is this a pressure issue because the cap was off, or is this a blown head gasket. Any insight would help.

That happens from time to time.
Probably the air trapped in the head burped out when the thermostat opened.

Let it cool and refill. Look up the cooling system capacity and see if thats how much you put in.
If you have close to the right amount, close it up and fill the overflow bottle to the line and it should top itself off after a few hot-cold cycles.
