Color Scheme

Hey I'm rebuilding an 81 CJ-7. I need some suggestions on what color to paint it. I want the engine, body, and everything else to run together well. I'm leaning towards a blue body so could anyone give me suggestions on what color to do the engine. Or if you have any other suggestions please give them. Thanks alot

If your thinking about a darker blue, check out "nightwatch blue", which is an '83 cj color. I used it on mine and it looks really nice. I'll try to get some pics in the near future. As far as the motor, you can never go wrong with Chevy orange. Mine is the color of mud, which seems to go well with most Jeeps.

Hey Jim79CJ, nice pic! Which one's you? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

I've got a metallic blue '71 CJ. I've got to decide soon what to paint the engine. Consensus here seems to be Chevy Orange. But has anyone here painted different colors for different parts? My entire engine is apart and out NOW, so it seems cool to paint the block different than the exhaust manif., valve covers, radiator, etc. Anyone have photos/ideas of ecclectic component color schemes under the hood?

Personally I like AMC Blue under the hood, no matter what the exterior color is. (Unless the motor is a Chevy, LOL.

I decided to go with Chrysler Industrial Red, which is almost the same color as chevy orange. I still think it looks good though. I just thought I'd let yall know. I'm gonna try and get some pictures posted within the next few days.

Always remember that the darker the paint, the harder it is to trace that elusive oil leak. I paint mine a lighter color to keep track of any little leak and it really does make the compartment brighter.

Just my $0.02

Hey OldJeepguy, in California you're supposed to park on the street!

BigdaddESean--thanks to your suggestion to Trevor, I've decided to paint MY engine Chevy Orange (metallic blue body). Good call because it's turning out well. I'll post pics of my color scheme (title of topic) as soon as it all gets together.

How did you guys paint your exhaust manifolds? I'm going through heck to try to find an oven to cure the hi-temp paint properly. I've got a thread in the "Engine" section on this problem. Any ideas on how to cure the paint in an oven???? Curing paint NEEDS a cure!!
