Clutch problem

The jeep recently started having a problem with speed and acceleration. I thought it was a brake problem until I was driving down the road and I heard a real loud zip noise and the clutch just went dead. I'm assuming that it had an effect on the power and I was wondering if putting a new clutch in would fix the deadness or is there more than it seems. It's never a simple fix when working on this thing.

Can you define "dead"? The pedal went to the floor? The clutch won't engage at all? Other?

I'm new to the jeep world soon trying to explain the best i can. I know the clutch was having problems when I shifted. It had way to much play in every gear and it constantly friended going into first and reverse and when I slowed down to fast it would grind. When I heard the the noise I lost all the gears but there's still pressure on the pedal

I agree, it sounds like a transmission failure. What transmission was it? Your profile doesn't say.

I don't know what kind it was. There's so many different years parts on it that I still don't know what it is. It may be out of a cj-8 because that's what the engine and transfer case is

How many speeds does the transmission have?
5spd would probably be a T-5
4spd would likely be T4, SR4, or T176 (maybe something else depending on what swaps may have been done).

Have you checked the fluids (transmission lube)?

Maybe take some pictures to help with identification.
