Clutch Master Cylinder

Hey all... I went to replace a leaky clutch master cyl. and got it all fitted in, etc. The only problem now is that my darn clutch has about 50 feet of play and just barely about 1 inch of actual clutch activity AT the firewall/floorboard... and yes I bled it like 50 times to no avail... I think the pushrod from the pedal into the cyl. is shorter than the new one? Unfortiunately I already tossed the old one so I can't swap/compare it... (Don't do mechanical work on the days the trash guys come around lol).... anyway... anyone have any ideas?

With the master cylinder pushrod extended all the way out you should have been able to connect the clutch pedal without having to push it down hardly at all. Are you sure the little plastic tip on the slave cylinder didn't fall off when you had slack in the system?
