clutch clicks when pedal pushed in

Almost every time I push in my clutch pedal I get a clicking sound from inside the bellhousing that I can hear inside the jeep. Anyone know what this is from? I have a t5 to 4.0 combination, and I think it is a centerforce II clutch. The noise happens just about when the pedal is pushed all the way down.

I don't know too much about the clutch area and just dont want it to be something that may let go...any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

My 86 (I6 T5) does the same thing sometimes. I think it is the fork moving on the ball stud as the spring is the only thing holding it in place unlike a older one that the fork clips to the ball stud and it drives me crazy too. Anyone with any ideas I would sure like to here them too.

It's the throwout bearing. This is the bearing that rides on the clutch fork and tranny input shaft. You have to pull the tranny and bellhousing to get to it. If this has gone out, it's probably time for a new clutch and pilot bushing. Don't forget to have the flywheel turned too!

If it is the throwout bearing, wouldn't it make a more constant noise, at least when the clutch is pressed in? This is a one time click at the moment the pedal is pressed...if I am wrong, could you explain to me why it happens this way? Thanks.

Probably not the throw out bearing. Check the linkage from the firewall back to the transmission. My was doing that. I had a broken engine mount bracket and the linkage was fouled up. Get under the Jeep and have someone press the pedal.

I did do that because I thought that was the problem, and it sounded like it was within the bellhousing. I still doubt it is the throwout bearing, maybe 1986cj is on to something.

1986cj, I think you're the closest. Could also be the return spring attached from the bell housing to the clutch TOB fork snapping or snagging against the bell housing. I agree with happydog that you'll probably figure it out from under the Jeep while someone else pushes in the clutch pedal.

Did you change over the pilot bearing for the T-5's pilot bushing when you swapped engines? They are different sizes and I have heard of noises happening there after if not swapped.
