Maybe the engine goes in tomorrow afternoon, after work. I can't believe all the little things that keep knocking me backward! Gotta evaluate what I am doing!!

Engine is in and bolted down. What a test! Blizzards for everyone when we finished. Hotter'n blazes... sweating like... like... well, just sweating a lot! Don't know why I have such challenges with this stuff? I have read and read until I'm pukin' Jeep info, and still I get it wrong! JW mentioned the serp belt. I planned to use the 258 water pump. The 4.0 still has serp belt pulleys on the crank and alternator. What do I do about that? Change pulleys or go back to XJ cooling system?

Wondering of you have the correct water pump, just checking, doesn't the serp. Belt drive use one that rotates the opposite direction?

Bill

yes, you are correct Bill...I replaced mine one time and they gave me one for a serp belt that I didn't know was wrong until my engine started to over heat after I fired it up! total PITA to have to take a mulligan on that shot and redo the job all over again...

So I don't know if I missed that part or not, but what is the difference between the 4.2 and 4.0 water pumps that you're using the 4.2 one on it?

I would think the harmonic balancer off the 258 would fit the crank snout, no? As for the alt not sure what you could do there.

I was assuming I had the correct pump. I know I botched something! Pump has to change or the pulleys. So a 258 pump is available with a serp pulley?

I am thinking along those lines, but I have not had the time to check it. Pretty sure I can change the alt pulley. Hope to verify tomorrow afternoon.

Here's a couple pics of the activities. The ants were so bad after all the rain that we were getting chewed up while laying under the Jeep. I had to spray the area before going further on the work, then we were laying in the sprayed area!

3)Fallon- the almost 14 tapeworm repository, human garbage disposal, and part-time tractor weight.

ANTS! Hate 'em. They were voracious at Ft. Benning.

The Alt pulley is a simple swap, so no problem there. The WP on a 4.0l and the 4.2 rotates CCW,with the serp. belt. the 4.2l rotates CW with the "V" belt. The difference is in the vanes on the impeller.
