I called AJ and asked him to come over and help. I'm very glad he did as it took nearly the whole day to figure out. I had the tub straight to a point that I would have "nailed it", but AJ pointed out this, and that, and this! I always stand dumbfounded when he does that. Why didn't I see it? I have to believe it is because he has trained himself, over the years, to look at certain problem areas. I just don't know what to look for....... yet! Anyway, he picked up some problems pretty quick and we got BUSY! I bet I walked around this tub 300 times today. And with AJ he gets it into his head and he goes. He doesn't say much, and with the larynectomy he doesn't TRY to say much, so I just followed around the tub with him, hoping I could hold the tape or something!
First thing we did was air up the tires so they all had consistent pressure. Then he fit the hood to the tub. He made some small plates (3/16" steel) and threaded the holes to go under the hood for the hinges to bolt to. Then we attempted to make the tub set square on the frame. He strapped some straight steel to the sides at axle height, aligning the tires. Then he set up some levels and boards to act as plumb bobs, and he measured from the tub at several places. We moved, and we tugged, and we shoved, and we moved until the measurements were the same all the way around. They weren't perfect either, but he did get the differences to 3/16... which is PDG! Then I bored new holes with a hole saw to attach the body temporarily. We will use the new holes but we have to take it all apart again.
PO had this metal frame around the back of the Jeep with a homemade tailgate. I pulled it off and this is what I found! I guess he wanted a tailgate. The tub must not have come with one. Why did he hack it up so???
Gotta go eat. Got one heck of a headache this evening! Enjoy the pics.
Go Fish! <*////><
But the right word at the right time... "Hey, give me a little hug!" That's the difference between lightning and a harmless lightning bug!
