Warren placed the TO bearing in NAPA's hands and told him he needed a longer one (about a 1/2"). They have two coming in tomorrow from Jacksonville. Hopefully one of them will work. If not, I will buy the adjustable one from Novak. If all goes well, we'll have his Jeep back Wednesday.

With all the 4.0 swaps you read about, I can't believe there is so little info on this clutch compatibility problem.

I admire your tenaciousness, Scott. I think my son would have been driving a Suburu by now.

Made me smile, Matt, and that's good today!

Neither of the TO bearings would work. Warren placed it back in my hands! I called Novak and talked with EJ again. I really like him. Unbelieveably helpful. They make an adjustable TO bearing, but they are out of stock, they are retooling, and they are at least 2 weeks away from a run. Novak sent me to Summit. So I called Summit. I had a great conversation with their tech dept. But they sent me to McCloud. McCloud listened patiently to the whole story, said "tsk, tsk... call AA." So I called AA, and I had a completely awesome conversation with Gino. Very knowledgable and friendly. He couldn't come up with anything either. He thought I had a bad flywheel. He gave me some specs, but he could offer nothing else. I couldn't think of anything left to do... total despair! So I called Bill. Bill said "adjustable pivot ball". So then I called Warren and explained about the adjustable pivot ball. He told me if I could get him the ball or a part number he would get it done. So that's where we are.

This is killing me!

Chevy trucks used the stud/ball pivot. I wouldn't think one would hard to find.

Checked AZ. The Boss says NO. I have to be sure and find one that will fit into the ball stud "tower". Pics on previous page. The Chevy ones I found are 13/16", too thick to be mounted in the tower.

I'm in a similar position with your build. I'm reading it, but I don't want to confuse the issue! I really don't know anything about ignition.

Nope, no 999. We could turn it into a Q-trac though. I do have a couple 1339's and TH400's. also have a 360, and 304 core. And a couple other parts.

Since you don't answer your phone I will have to throw this out in public and possibly embarrass rednecks around the world including yours truly.

That adjustable ball stud looks like a common ball bearing lincoln fused to a beheaded bolt with a nylon locknut.

The stand off inside the bell housing is possibly in question, as to how stout it may be with a hole drilled and tapped. In the article I read the owner of the jeep welded in gussets to add strength.

Good idea Dave, only I would use a jam nut and loctite to prevent the stud from coming loose. Would also grind the concave out of the stand off.

It appears I need to halt my pre-trip CJ work and go look at a spare bell housing.

One of Scotty's concerns was wether or not the stand off was hollow. I don't think it would be, unless it was a casting flaw.

The stand-off is solid with a concave depression for the ball to sit in.

Has anyone considered modifying the fork, somehow?
