I got home from work today and found Clay at the shop. The holiday weekend is over, and Big Brother went back to Savannah. Clay has been working on bending the fuel line for the external pump and FI. We are resuing the XJ SS fuel line as it is several feet long. I bought a hand bender, which, I have read, are not very good. But you know me... I had to try it. Or, rather, CLAY had to try it. (hee hee) So I put Clay to bending the line, him under the Jeep. As it should be! He commented how hard it was to bend. I told him "Go slow", he brought the bender to me a bit ago... in pieces! But he got it done sufficiently, and the fuel lines are installed.

So... what is done?
Fuel lines
PDC installed and powered (all fuses/relays check out)
All sensors installed
Injectors cleaned and installed (not rebuilt though)
Wiring is bundled up and in a *general* arrangement
Some wires have been removed from the XJ harness (this is based on the experience of another JF member who is currently completing his swap)
3 wires have been spliced to the CJ bulkhead connector, but I get absolutely nothing! I was hoping to spin the starter.

What is left?
Figure out the stoopid wires!!
Clay is building a super-heavy-duty bracket for the electric fan. (It will be a perk in the event of a head-on collision!)
Connect the fuel pump.
Install plug wires.
Fill with coolant.
Change the oil.
New serp belt.

I'll follow up with pics later. I need help with wiring!!!!

If I were wanting to spin the engine with the starter, I'd start with...

Checking the battery.
Checking grounds and supply lines. This also means checking for 12v+ at the starter ( old solenoid not being used.) reguardless of key position.

Checking for 12v+ at the blue wire that energized the old solenoid, with the key in the start position.

If you don't have power to the blue wire, you either don't have power to the fuse block, or, are using the wrong wire.

I'm not using the blue wire. Do I need to use the blue wire?? There is a blue wire... actually 2 blue wires... at cavity 13B in the CJ BH connector. I have that connected. But I don't think it is the same blue wire...

Have it connected to what? It should be the same blue wire... On the diagram shown earlier, cavity 13B was labeled as the "ignition crank." The two blue wires should have been the blue wire that went to the "S" terminal on the starter solenoid, and the blue wire that went to the power connector on the old ignition module. Only one of these two leads is needed to be spliced into the 4.0 harness. It should be spliced to the yellow wire that goes to the starter relay in the PDC.

Hey Ken! Glad to hear from you. I have spliced one of those blue wires to the yellow that goes to the starter relay in the PDC. But Nix! I obviously cut something out that I shouldn't have, AND/OR- I'm wondering if the park/neutral switch wire needs to be grounded?? I have not done that... just had that brainstorm this evening. Also, I have a fairly long, heavy brown wire with a ring terminal that comes out of the alternator plug that I ASSUME goes to the small terminal on the starter solenoid. Not sure about that one. Guess I'd better get some pics up!

edit* I should mention that I can confirm power in the blue wire/s with the key in the start position.

I did test the starter (Thank you, Bill), and it is good. Didn't think to take the Jeep out of gear!! Nobody died...

well... ummm... I don't know! Clay was standing outside, and I was making the battery connection when it started to go backwards! I removed the battery connection before Clay let go of the key! It sounds like a Chrysler starter!!

Yes, the NSS wire should be grounded. This will complete the actuation circuit for the starter motor relay in the PDC. The output from this relay actuates the starter motor solenoid (on the starter).

Actually, there are two leads that ground through the NSS. One is the bk/wt wire from cavity D11 in the PDC. The other is pin 30 on the ECM. Both of these should be grounded.

Thanks, Ken. I grounded the NSS wire/s from the PDC. There are two coming from the starter motor relay, which is labeled "F" in the PDC. One of the wires goes to the ECM, but I didn't take note of the pin number. The other went to a large, black plug... possible tranny control module? I cut them both and twisted them together at the PDC. SHAZZAM! The Jeep cranked with the key! However, it would begin cranking before fully engaging the key in the start position, and it would not stop cranking when the key was released... you have to go back to off to make the starter stop.

Variations I tried... I rejoined the ECM wire so it made a complete circuit from the ECM to the PDC, and I twisted the "black plug" wire together with it, then grounded that connection. I have the same result.

I left the "black plug" wire out of it altogether. Same result.

Going back out to stare at it!

I really should go play Lotto or something! I haven't had this kind of luck in awhile. I went back to look at the wiring at the BH connector. I had the CJ BH start wire (14B) connected to the XJ blue wire (A21) from the PDC. A21 is a 12GA Dark Blue wire which is labeled "ignition switch output (start/run)". Holy Mackeral... I'm starting to sound like "Them"! I moved 14B to XJ PDC wire A41, 14GA Yellow wire, labeled "ignition switch output (start)". Now it cranks with the key as it should. Now I just have to figure out where everything else goes!

No thanks needed, not like I contributed much. As for the fuel pump relay wire, which terminal on the relay does it come from? If its the terminal for the switched relay power supply then yes, connect it to a start/run

'84 CJ-7: Yota axles (spartan locked front, e-locked rear) 4" BDS, 1" Daystar & 3/8" shackle lifts, 35" X-Terrains on steelies, YJ Tub & family roll bar, heater blower upgrade, 4.2L w/MC2100 & Team Rush, Warn 8274. Rebuilt 4.2/4.0 hybrid, AX15 and twin sticks/clocking ring waiting to go in.

The advertised position for a topless, dirty jeep girl has been filled......by my wife. Thanks to all that applied.
