Dude, my cousin-out-law had a WRX and I rode with him from my Mom's place over the causeway to Galveston to pick up some odds and ends, I have to say that son-of-a-bisquit was blindingly fast; in fact, I think that flat-four WRX pulled harder than any street car I have been in in my life.
After ALL THESE YEARS OF READING. Reading things that didn't make ANY sense at all! Thinking, "I need to understand", but never really getting it. IT HAS ALL COME CRASHING TOGETHER IN A CULMINATION OF JEEP KNOWLEDGE NEVER BEFORE EXPERIENCED BY ANY HUMAN! Yep. It's true. I wouldn't lie. You KNOW me! Sooo, you wanna know what happened this morning?? C'mon... guess. Yep. I GOT IT!

PILOT BUSHING REMOVAL

Pilot bushing, you say? You want to know what a pilot bushing is, and what it does?? I don't have any idea! I just know you need it, AND I know WHERE IT GOES, and HOW TO GET IT OUT! Thanks to the members of this heer forim.

You can see, in the pics that follow, the 258 block sitting quietly, although without grace, in the trailer.

Then, you can see the pilot bushing with my indispensible can of Sili-Kroil... compliments of a friend in Illinois.

Then some bread. Yeah, yeah, I was a might peckish.

Fill the hole with bread.

Drive in a large bolt. Add more bread, if needed.

And, DEWD! IT COMES RIGHT OUT!

That is the coolest thing I have ever experienced. Even better than a WRX gittin it over a causeway!

Too bad the pilot bushing for a T18 DOES NOT FIT A 4.0L! Going to have to get it turned down. The new one is aluminum? Why is the brass one so chewed up? Which one should I use? Delays, delays...

I've used grease in place of the bread. Amazing that an old way of doing things is still around. You'd think the obd1 would be able to take that out for you, even though it is in the 258. Computers.....well let me just say they can't replace the human brain. Did you have any bread left over for a sandwhich? Aint you glad Papa Billy is so old and knows this stuff?

Sorry Scott, I forgot all about the wiring stuff for the 4L.

Turns out I told a half truth, .

The bulkhead info I have is for a '94 XJ. But I have a pin out for the ECM connection as well and it is for '91 through '93. I can only assume the bulkhead connector will be the same through those years as far as the main terminals go......and I haven't found anything to contradict that assumption......yet.

I stole these pics from other threads but they show the cavities you need.

'79 bulkhead:

12A is your main power feed
13B is your ignition crank, and
14B is your ignition crank & run

'94 bulkhead (ignore the text regarding the YJ wiring):

12A should be spliced to E4 on the donor harness (Ignition switch feed-10G red).
13B should be spliced to H2 on the donor harness (Engine starter relay-14G yellow)
14B should be spliced to B6 on the donor harness (Ignition start/run-12G dark blue)

The only thing I haven't addressed is the fuel pump. Near as I can tell you just use cavity C4 on the donor harness to trigger the fuel pump relay.

'84 CJ-7: Yota axles (spartan locked front, e-locked rear) 4" BDS, 1" Daystar & 3/8" shackle lifts, 35" X-Terrains on steelies, YJ Tub & family roll bar, heater blower upgrade, 4.2L w/MC2100 & Team Rush, Warn 8274. Rebuilt 4.2/4.0 hybrid, AX15 and twin sticks/clocking ring waiting to go in.

The advertised position for a topless, dirty jeep girl has been filled......by my wife. Thanks to all that applied.
<------------and yes, that is her.

If you use grease you end up getting... greasy. And you know how I like to stay clean when I work!

I was installing the new 258 water pump on the 4.0 block. Clay had it painted up. The vanes on the pump hit the cylinder sleeve! The old 258 pump doesn't hit. The 4.0 pump doesn't hit. The new pump hits!

The 4L bore is .125 larger but i wouldn't think that would make the vanes hit the cyl wall.....but you made sure to get the 4.2 pump for a serp belt, right?

Actually, why use a 4.2 pump at all?

Not doing the serp belt. That would be cool, but I am keepig everything 258 that I can, because I have it already. Using the 258 water pump, I keep the 258 cooling system, and I have no need for an electric fan. At least... I think!

Ordered a pilot bushing from Novak today. $28!!! Yelp!@%#.
Still fussing with motor mounts, Crank Position Sensor, and water pump.
Will this thing EVER go into the Jeep?
