As a Jeep is never done, wouldn't this just be part of the build thread? Gotta keep it here Skip.

I'll be following this thread, Scott.

It's too bad you don't have time, dollars, or inclination to figure out what's wrong with the current engine. I think we'd all learn something.

Good luck wit the swap.

I agree, keep the 4.0 swap in this thread.

Did the oil blow out of crankcase with the valve cover vents/pcv removed?

It sounds like you are going to keep the fuel injection, if possible, it would be nice to run it on a stand before you drop it in the CJ.

Here is the link to the thread I started about the oil issue. If anybody has an idea of what it IS, rather than chasing parts, PLEASE chime in. Pretty sure a rebuild would solve the problem, but I don't want to rebuild the 258. I want to add that a certain JF Member has graciously offered Clay a complete, ready-to-drop-in 258, for free, all I gotta do is go get it. As much as that would solve the problem it is not cost effective for me at this time. But that person, whoever you are (), is very much appreciated.

We could network a chain of JFers that could relay the 258 down, each guy taking it a hundred miles or so. With the following you have, and the way we all feel about Clay, I'm sure we could pull it off. Would this engine be in Illinois per chance? I would do my part!

The engine is in central Illinois. I am willing to take the engine to Memphis TN.

I think we should wait until Scott decides if he wants to install the 4.0l he just picked up. If I was retired I'd take it to Florida, ( I want to see if the Skerrs are as tall as they appear , or if they're all wearing Elevator shoes. )

Scott, keep the install of the 4.0l in this thread.

If he decides it would be a shorter drive for you to go to Nashville or Lexington and a lot closer for me to pick it up for him. I live less than an hour from him here in FL but I'll be in Bristol in TN as far north and east as you can go in the state. I have family outside Nashville so I could swing by and see them and meet you on my way home too. Whatever will help! Scott has my number and I'll check in on the forum periodically while I'm gone to see too.

Keep it on this thread. I lost my remote and don't want to get up and turn the dial.

Chris and Paul... Thank You, Gentlemen. Very kind offers and hard to decline! But I have gotten a wee bit excited about this 4.0 swap.

Okay... I'll keep it on this thread. You want me to bring you some more chips?

My truck lost its transmission this past Sunday. It died, with no warning, on my way to work. I limped into the shop that I use and parked it, wifey picked me up in the '97 Astro van, which I have intentionally NOT repaired because I want to use that money toward my Jeep. The plan is to get my 7 on the road and give the truck to Beth, taking the van off the road. Then I can do my 4.3 swap like I want to. But the truck died, and the van became the MIV! She carried me to work Monday moring and the van overheated! Keep in mind that Clay's Jeep is dead, now the truck is dead, and the van is dying! My Jeep isn't ready, and Fallon's Cherokee isn't legal, AND the front clip is off. So Clay picked me up in the van, with heater going full blast, went by the parts store and got a Tstat, changed it in the shop, the Astro is back on the road, put Fallon's Cherokee back together and stuck a tag on it, drove it to work today, and should get my truck back tomorrow, during the massive rain event we're supposed to have all weekend! Truck tranny for a 2001 F150 4dr 4X4 Lariat is $2000 plus $772 for install! A Jasper tranny. Don't anyone say anything!!! But I had a Sergeant's interview yesterday morning, and I won Officer of the Month, so I have a special parking spot right up front. Wish I had something to park in it!!
