Getting those soft doors the right way in the tub is a pain in the b**t. I gave up at a certain point. Wind an water tightness was enough then...

Aren't there adjusting bolts for the hinge pins at inside of doors?





A bit look alike?

In the color pic of Clay and the rig, YOUR windshield angle looks more correct than the door. Can you finagle the hinge placement, pivoting the bottom one toward the back wheel?

I just had an epiphany looking at this, I think they sent you the upper doors for a TJ where the windshield is laid back more. I'd contact the manufacturer because it would seem to me as though your windshield angle is right, and in order to get it to lean back that much, you are really going to be putting pressure on those hinges.

That's awesome Dutch!! You've done a great job on your 5. And yes, the lower hinge pins are adjustable, which we DID discover! We have a better fit now.

We did do this Chris, and it helped a LOT.

We bought the top through a classified ad from a guy in Ohio. It was an insane PITB to get it down here to Florida!! I'm pretty sure it is complete and accurate, but everybody has been suffering the NOOB top installer! After adjusting hinge pins (including cracking one) we have something we can live with. Also, part of the problem is the factory weld of the upper hinge pin on the driver's side. It was not placed correctly on the frame. We will be doing some surgery!!

So what d ya'll recommend for sewing/repairing the seam where the thread pulled out? Bill has suggested waxed thread, which I think would be very good. Any other/better suggestions?

You didn't knew that? They are rather hidden underneath the cloth, so overlooking is comprehensible. For getting a better fit with the windshield frame, I dit some adjustments to the pins off the upperdoors, this tilted the uppers more forward, closing the gap a bit more. Maybe you can use a position ring on the pins. Bestop uses them with other uppers also.

I got mine repaired at a sailmaker workshop. They where specialized in tents and boat sails, but did a great job on my loose stitches.

Knowing that I find the sourcing on the top suspect, I'd now almost bet you have TJ upper doors. Id see if you can find someone around the way with a CJ or YJ with cloth uppers and see if they fit. It would tell the whole story.

If you can't find waxed thread, use upholstery thread. It's a thicker, stronger thread that I use on anything that needs to be rugged.

The position rings won't help in this application. It's like the driver's door sits too far back (pins extend outward too far). It makes a good seal around the door reveal, just not as good as I would like around the windshield.

I have the Bestop site saved, and that's what I used to install the top.

A sail shop would be the right thing to do, but the torn seam is only 3 or 4" and we can do that at home.
