I HAVE A CJ8 SCRAMBLER AND ON THE RIGHT SIDE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT THERE IS A BOX WITH WIRE COMING OUT OF IT. IT IS A 1981 WITH A 258. IT IS MARKED 3239351. I HAVE GONE TO THE AUTO PARTS STORE NOBODY KNOWS WHAT IT IS. I EVEN TRIED THE DEALER. HELP.

Sounds like an ignition module or a voltage regulator. Maybe post a pic?

Like the one on the left?

It's an idle speed control module. Only used on a couple of years. Used to kick up the idle speed because of all the vacuum controlled emmision equiptment. Also increases the idle when the manifold heater is on or the AC is on.
Does the number 4002A 27 1 appear on it someplace??

If you have a V8 it could be a voltage regulator as was mention before.
