CJ7 Transmission Problems

Hey guys,

My uncle has a 1985 CJ7, inline 6, 5 speed. Lately, the tranny pops out of 1st gear every time you use 1st, unless you hold it in. The other time its acted up was when he was cruising, he found that it would not come out of 3rd gear. When he finally got it out of 3rd, where the neutral position would normally be, was 1st gear.

Im sorry I don't know what kind of transmission it is right now. Any idea's?

maybe it's something with the shifter or linkages.

If you take off your tunnel cover you'll see this if you manage to get all the bolts off of the cover, the one in the back is a big challenge , But I got it with a universal joint , and socket and ratchet. then you'll see that part with the holes and grooves for the tab and spring and detent ball.
maybe it's something with the shifter or linkages and I also saw a post , where someone said on the little plastic tabs that goes on the shift forks fell off and he was having a problem like yours
