Cj7 4.0/aw4/d300 fit?

Hey guys,

I am finally ready to upgrade the engine in my 81 cj7(258/t4/d300), and after weighing all of the options have decided on the 4.0 w the aw4 mated to my existing d300.

I have read many threads on this swap, but have not found anything on the figment inside of the vehicle. I am worried that when I gonw the longer aw4 tranny that the TC shifter will be pushed back and I will have to chop up my floor in order for the shifter to come up.

Does anyone have any insight into this or even some post install pics?

Any input will be greatly appreciated!

Although i cant actually answer your question as i have never done the swap, if it does move the shifter back and you dont want to cut the tub (and have some cash) these are a good option HERE

That is the same swap I'm will do later in my 86 CJ. From what I have measured, once you drill the new holes on the AW4 or use a clocking ring, the t- case is about 2 inches further back (than my T5). I too don't want to cut the floor as I have the factory console there. So what I'm doing is moving the t case pivot forward and extending the two shift rails with bar stock of the same size. It will them come up in the old location and shift the same. You'll need some fab tool/ skill though as it's all custom.

I have the NW cable kit and while it works as advertised I am not that thrilled with it. Cable shifting the 300 is awkward it since it muffles the feeling of the dentents
