CJ5 Wiring - Basic Help - (Rockford Illinois)
I am trying to make my 1977 CJ5 work with the wiring that was in it when I got it, but I don't even know where to start. First of all, I'm not sure what worked when I got it and what didn't. Second, I labeled a lot of wires when I disconnected it all, but I was honestly too excited to tear it down and start cleaning it up that I didn't spend enough time marking and documenting (I've learned my lesson on this one). I don't even know where to begin, I understand some basics of wiring, but I need some help on this. I understand that I'm asking a very vague question here, but can anyone recommend any websites or resources that I can use to assist in figuring out what I have going on. I have seen some diagrams for a 1977 CJ5's wiring, but I would appreciate any links to diagrams, or basic wiring information and guides.
I put my city and state (Rockford Illinois) in the Title of the post in case someone around my area should feel so inclined to help me out of this mess .
Any basic wiring resources, diagrams, input, etc. is greatly appreciated.

So your nearing the end of a rebuild and need help getting the wiring hooked back up?
I have found a few diagrams on google. Here is one. I am in the middle of trying to get my bodywork done so I can get it painted before winter. This leaves me very little spare time for my other projects not to mention helping someone out with theirs. Although, beer is a great persuasion device. What parts are you having trouble with the engine, body, under dash? BTW, I live in Belvidere.

Well here's the deal. All of the wiring for the JEEP was in place when I got it, and I assume most everything worked. The problem with assuming on this is that it appears the JEEP was used for cruising in a pasture where no gauges and some other electrical items aren't needed. I just need someone with more expertise than I (which, on this topic, and project vehicles in general is not hard to do, as I'm a newbie) to come in and show me what to do. If someone can come in and just say "these are right, they just need to go here, these need to be lengthened to run here" etc. etc. than I can probably handle the rest of the project. I work in a troubleshooting field and feel that I can learn concepts quickly, so if you could at least more or less assess my situation and point out a few things, it may be all I need. This is the second JEEP I have owned, but I never touched anything on the first JEEP, and this, being a learning project, and my first ever project vehicle has been a great learning experience, but I'm at a point now where I need someone who has a lot more experience to look at it with me and let me know what I've done wrong, and what direction I need to head in.
I would have nothing against purchasing the correct amount and type of beer to obtain some assistance .

The first thing I would do, is get yourself a factory service manual, if you don't already have one. If the harness is the OEM, this will help you with color codes and determining what goes where. It won't tell you everything, but it is a start. I purchased my last one off of ebay.

When are you likely to be working on your Jeep? I might be willing to lend you a hand if I can. Did you ever find a wiring diagram or have a way to print out a nice version of one from the web?
I tried to send you a PM but your box was full.

I can print one from the web, and I also have one for my year in a HAYNES manual. I'll most likely be beating my head against the side of it Saturday morning while I try to figure out what I have going on.
I cleared out my PM box.

Not dial up friendly.

On the one for the 78 that Coiz posted, I'm trying to figure out my blower speeds. The diagram is kinda hard to read, I am trying to fix where mine goes off-medium-low-high speed. I think the PO wired the resistor wrong. Any help with the pinout as to the speeds? Thanks.
PS. Not trying to hijack thread..

Hard to read or understand? It's scanned at a hi resolution. Thos one Coiz posted is for a 78 CJ. There are some minor differenses in the heater and V8 alternator.
The 78 heater is way different from a 77. The 76-77 heater had no resistors in the circuit.

Use to, not so much time when kids have sports during the school year. Isn't there a big RC hobby shop on 91 in N. Canton?
