Cj5 Weight?

What is the weight of a CJ5 equipped with AMC V-8, manual trans, interior roll cage, soft top and soft doors?

Varies...different year ranges (just like the lengths), different trannies, roll cage isn't stock, just the sport bar. Lotta variables there to try to give you a pat answer.

My '81 with, stock interior, 33x12.50s, soft top 4 spd and 258 weighed 3600 and change (with winch).

Find a junk car recycler, or recycling yard (good place for raw material, I do a lot of shopping there) and see if they will weigh yours for free. The usually will. If not do some clean up and bring them a load, they will weigh your vehicle full then reweigh it empty to calculate the weight of scrap, just ask for the weights.

Enjoy!

WOW! That is hard to believe. How can it be that heavy? I have a 1969 Dodge Coronet 440 six pack Super Bee with 117" wheelbase that only weighs 3800 lbs. with all standard factory equipment.

Darryl...you'd be surprised at how much weight the 4wd adds. Also, I believe 3600 is about the weight of a stock LT1 camaro, just to put it in perspective

Yep! it suprised me too!
Of course the 258 is probably as heavy (or nearly) as a 440. (I was hopeing for something around 1000 pounds less, overall).
(That includes my lard err, large A** @ 220 lbs).

Enjoy!

Darryl,

Find a closed road side truck scale and weigh your rig. Here in Oregon they are all over the place because the state can't afford to keep them all open. The state rotates the DOT guys around to keep the truckers guessing.

Most of the scales here will still read even if its closed.

Love Sedona, one of my favorite places.

Semi equipped TJ's come in around 4300 lbs. My CJ7 is just under that and my Cj5 is just under that at 3900 lbs.

last summer I weighed mine at the local dump. with both me and my wife in it with all the gear and about half a tank of fuel. It weighed in at 3220. I didn't have a winch at the time. So the cj5 empty should weigh in about 2900 lbs. Now my jeep doesn't have a boxed frame and rust doesn't weigh much.

Early 5s will weigh significantly less than later 5s due to the light weight v-6 (the I-6 used in later 5s weighs more than some v-8s) the early 5s also have lighter (unboxed, as mentioned above) frames and a lighter roll bar (if equipped). the front clip and frame on the early 5s is also shorter. The later 5s have a heavier belly pan and gas tank/skid plate.
There are undoubtedly other differences (like the flip forward seat brackets, fancy tailgate and rear seat, if equipped) that add weight to the later 5s.

Enjoy!
