CJ5 Sound System Options

Have a 1979 CJ5 that we've got running great, clean interior, simple vintage dash.

While the 350 sounds great and the sounds of driving are all I've needed for 8 months now, its about time I get a radio and speakers in this thing.

I wanted to get ideas from the forum on what others have done with their CJ's.

I wouldn't mind a decent sound as long as the setup is clean and hidden as best as possible. That means speakers mounted well, no wires hanging or in awkward places, etc.

I want to put the two front speakers behind the dash as they were stock. Believe they're 5 1/4. Want the dash to be clean.

If anyone has ideas on rear speakers, a small sub if possible, speaker sizes & mounts, mounting locations (possibly on the front of the wheel wells of the rear tires, behind the passenger / driver seats??). Would love to see pics / ideas of what others have done.

I also am nearing time for a radio. I was thinking about filling the stock dash hole with this one.

As for the dash speakers I hear a 5/14" will do but in mine at least I have the e-brake bracket not giving much depth on that drivers side. Looks like it might limit me to lower cost speakers for my dash at least.

This is a current thread. Good stuff on there as well. I like the "retro" but a bit pricey.
