Cj5 key wont turn to "lock" position

I have a 1980 cj5 and the key won't turn to the "lock" position and therefore the key won't come out. I removed the cylinder and even though it worked perfectly I ordered a new one on ebay just to be safe, but it's the same exact thing. I think the problem is something inside the column. It seems to me like the jeep itself is in the lock position but something got messed up and it no longer wants to line up with the lock cylinder. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!!!!

At your key switch there should be a tab/lever on the column (in front and below the key switch). Push it down and the key will turn to the release position. If it hasn't been broken off. Good Luck.

There is a switch down on the column that has oval holes for adjusting it to match up with the key. Maybe it got bumper out of place or something?
