Cj5 frame question

Hey guys I'm trying to figure out what frame I'm going to us for my cj5 build and I have two to choose from ones has an extra cross member and am to figure out why and other information on it.

The frame in the first picture is the version produced until 1980.
1981 and forward has mounted the frame without the extra cross member.

That's strange cause the first picture was an 83 cj5. Not saying your wrong maybe po changed it are there any pros or cons in the two
