CJ5 engine cough

In my '69 CJ5, I have a buick dauntless 225, and I might have an issue.. When I'm driving at about 50, in third gear, my jeep will be cruising fine, but about every ten minutes, the engine will sort of cough.. Like a brmmmmmm-stop-brrrrmmmm. I know that sounds goofy, but I'm sure someone will know what I'm talking about. I need to know what could be the issue. Jeep idles fine, and runs strong, it just cuts out for a split second sometimes, and I can feel it.. Any help is appreciated.

Caleb

Sudden loss of engine power typically is caused by ignition failure. Fuel issues tend to exhibit a slow loss of power as opposed to sudden.

I would double check your ignition system for any loose connections, especially around the coil.

Does the power loss ever occur after hitting a bump? Do you ever get a backfire?

Good Luck.......

I only get backfire when I'm using engine braking, but other than that, no. It seems like it might be occuring after bumps like you said.. I'm going to check right now, around the distributor and the spark plug wires.. Hmm..
