CJ5 CJ7 Tilt Steering Column Lever question

Hey all. Anybody familiar with tilt column levers? I am working on a column that came out of an 83 CJ7, the tilt lever is missing so I want to replace it. I see new levers on eBay but it looks like they all "thread" in. On my column however, there is just a short round steel "nub" sticking out of the column (maybe 3/4" to 1" inch of a round steel shaft is showing and this little stubby shaft has male fine splines on it where it looks like a lever would attach). I am able to pull this little shaft back with needle nose pliers and it pulls back fine and the wheel tilts fine, but this doesn't look at all like the config on the levers I have seen for sale. Did they have two styles/types? One with threads and one with splines? Or does the little shaft I have sticking out unscrew perhaps, allowing you to replace it with a new screw on type? I just didn't want to try unscrewing it and chance breaking something & figured somebody here has some experience with these things?? Please help me if you can. Thank you in advance, I appreciate it!
