CJ5 Axles

I tried researching it on my own, but with no success. I have a few questions about the narrow track vs. wide track axles.

First off, is the narrown track axle that they ran in cj7's or aka the amc 20 the same width as the narrow trac D44 rear axle that is in my 1970 CJ5?

In what years did they make the Amc 20 rear axle with an offset differential?

Would it be a huge "NO NO" to swap in a wide trac amc 20 rear axle that has a centered differential even though I have the Dana 18 transfercase which is offset to the passenger side?

Thanks for any responses!

Same width and the '76-79 CJ7's with a Quadratrac transfer case have a passenger side offset differential.

There is not an offset pumpkin in the widetracs. The quadratrac amc 20s are the same width as your axles.

Thanks for the quick responses guys! Then I guess my next question would have to be can I run an AMC 20 wide trac with the center pumpkin, or will the difference in drive shaft angles be too much for the drive shaft?

The wheelbase is too short to run a centered differential.

You could go to a rear Dana 44 from a Wagoneer, which is offset, but it will be wider than a widetrack CJ axle by 3-4 inches.
