CJ5 1973 would you buy it????

I know, I know... I have no pics to show you, but what would you say a CJ5, 1973, 304, 3 speed is worth? It is in good condition, with "normal" rust on tub, but for the most part is solid. He is asking $3500 for it and I offered to pay him $2500 but he said $2800. What would you say to this? Is it worth it? It would be my second jeep.

Is it worth it to YOU? In general, the value and price are about average, in good running shape. But my opinion is my two cents..... could be worth four or five to you! What I mean is, if I wanted it, and it was in good shape, it's worth it to me. But right now i wouldn't buy another, even cheap, because i have too many! If it runs and drives, you really can't go wrong....

Normal rust here would mean it would need a new tub and frame, so that would be too much.

There's a guy another post above that is looking at a CJ -5 for 1,900$ that has a south carolina body with the 304 and 3 speed. No top, but just needs paint. Without a piture it's hard to say.

Be advised that parts for 72-75 are not as easily obtained as for the 76 and later CJs. That said, if you like the vehicle, the price does not seem unreasonable depending on the condition. Check the frame for cracks and rust, and have another look at the condition of the tub!

2nd jeep! Welcome to the family! I have two right now. I own a CJ7 and a Tj. That price is good especiallly if it is all there. I would definitely pay that much for one if I could find a nice one around here for that price. Recently I thought I had my hands on one for under $2000 but the bidding got ridiculous on Ebay. It sold for $7000 w/o doors or a top. Go figure. I paid $4800 for a fully tricked out trail jeep. The axles are worth more than what I paid. It is true I had to swap out the trans and transfer case. Luckily for me I had those parts lying close by. My opinion is good for it.

does the name of the vehicle sound like a G followed by a P? than yes! (dang its actually amc but whatev) I would think you could get a better deal tho. I have hard time judging jeep prices since i live in the womb of jeep's mother so prices tend to be pretty good around here. Its a little thing i like to call supply and demand. . .we have the supply!
Disregard everything i say

I have a dana 30 front axle and amc 20 rear if anyone is looking. Both are 3.54, drums, narrowtrack.

I just bought my 75 CJ-5 w/ 304, full soft top on 35" Super Swampers on aluminum rims for $1500. Tub has alot of "patches" but its solid and it runs strong. I figured at that price I have a lot of room to play even if something goes wrong.
