Is it a CJ3 or CJ5?????

I recently acquired what was advertised as a 1959 CJ5. The title says it is a 1957 CJ3. The serial number is 5754893063. The Jeep registry I looked up says it is a 59 CJ5. It has the rounded fenders and hood of a CJ5. The seats are different from what I have seen. They are a 60/40 arrangement with no space in-between. Could this possible be a 57 CJ3 with rounded fenders hood? I thought the CJ3's had flat fenders and hoods. I can send some pictures if you want more info.
Thanks

If you post pics it would definitely help identify it. Unfortunately, often with Jeeps, the title is no longer accurate.

it's just a bench seat, don't know if they were an option in 59, could have been swapped from a later cj. sound to me like a cj5

Serial number 5754893063 is indeed a 59 CJ-5.

And the 60/40 seat in the front isn't unusual. Mine has them, too.

If your title has the matching serial number (not VIN), then the vehicle description is wrong.

The top two pictures below are of my CJ-5 to show you the offset seats. The third pic is of a CJ-3B for reference. Notice the flat front fenders, the flat tall hood, the door opening and most importantly the windshield hinges.

you dont have enough posts to put up pics yet. Try uploading them to a free Photobucket account and posting the IMG link from there. Those always show up a lot easier.

There ya go. Pictures of an original CJ-5. And I am SOOOOO envious of you!! In that second picture, you see those two small shifters back towards the seats? Yeah, you have the twin direction PTO drive coupled to that monster winch on the front bumper. I would pretty much give anything to have that!!! If you EVER decide to remove that, please, please, please let me know. I will go sell plasma or something to get the money together.

According to the Ohio BMV website, they have a procedure for that:

Quote:
Contact the nearest Highway Patrol Inspection Station and ask to come in and have a trooper do a vehicle verification check on the car. Mail a copy of the HP106 form, a copy of the front and back of the title, and a brief notarized statement (include your phone number) as to the issue to the Ohio BMV, Title and Vehicle Information Services, P.O. Box 16520, Columbus, Ohio, 43216-6520. Title services will research the issue and provide you with a correction letter so that you can proceed to your county clerk's Title Office for a replacement title.
I could not find the form "HP106" on the website, but I'm sure its something that the "Highway Patrol Inspection Station" will have. Seems like lots of steps! You obviously can not drive it to the inspection station as it is, but I'm sure the trooper will go to your house.

Its a similar procedure here when you want to register something as a "hot rod", or "custom vehicle". The state trooper comes to your house, inspects it, and gives you a new vin (in our case), then off to the DMV

CJ3 or 5

I have not heard of a state trooper coming to the house to inspect the car. Do you live in OH and had this done?
Thanks for the info.

Might want to sign up over here...

www.earlycj5.com

I have a 55 CJ5 I am doing, and the above site is a lifesaver!

You can see the original green under it, mine was originally that color also.

Micky D... I will keep your name on file if I ever find a PTO set up. I have actually seen one for sale and at the time I didn't know what I was looking at. Doh!

No, I live in Maine, but the process is probobly similar. Heck, just give them a call and ask what to do. The Ohio BMV website also says that minor errors can be fixed at the county clerks office.
