CJ won't stay started

I have a '78 CJ7 with 305 V8.

My trouble started the other day when I went to start it and it fired up only to die when I released the key. Each time it does the same thing- turn the key, it starts, release the key, it dies.

Any idea's?

Thanks,
Tad

Sounds like a poor connection. Could be in the ingnition switch, colum or solinoid. Now finding out which on it is will be the fun part. Get a multimeter and check for continuity.

I have an 83 CJ that had this problem. Does a 78 have an ECM computer?

If so, there is a heave guage red wire coming out of one of the connectors that has a factory splice up near the firewall side of the fuse panel. This splice may have come undone or become very corroded. Thats what was causing my problems.
