I think you're refering to the snaps for the soft top...the older style doesn't have channels...that came with YJs...I just got a new Supertop and I have to saw off the snaps and screw in new channels...

I've also seen roll bars that have bolts from the side...

Hey guys! Thanks for the comments and posting the pics. It's a 79 Levi's Edition with a 304. I've only had it a couple of months, and if the buttons aren't for the original soft top (I only have the hard top), I'm not sure what they're for. If someone knows, please let me know.

Thanks again!

those are the four bolts for the roll bar mount, (as noflacko mentioned) and have nothing to do woth a soft top.

eventually, they changhed from mounting them just on top of the rear fenderwell to mounting them on the floor behind the drivers seat and top of the fenderwell, and those four bolts went away.

you need to have them at a hosted site, like photobucket.com (it's free)

then post the link to the image

My 1980 CJ-5. In-line 6. Standard. 80,000 miles. Its like a navy blue with blue metallic paint. Got it 2 weeks ago, been fixing the previous owner(s) crappy wiring since. About to put a 2 1/4" shackle lift on it. New fuel pump, fuel filter, headlight dimmer and switch, pvc breather, air filter.

You might want to think about that 2 1/4" shackle lift. Almost guaranteed to screw up your steering as it alters the front end alignment caster angle. If you want to lift it, go with a suspension lift.
