My new to me 78'. Got it about a month ago and just now digging into all the fun stuff that comes with an old one.. )
Currently that means wheel bearing packing and greasing up all the zerks as well as some fresh paint underneath to protect and freshen things a little. P.O. already undercoated the tub with a rubber type liner and I found Spicer stamped on the u-joints, so that gives me hope for the rest of the parts )
She will need floorboards and the rear springs are a lil' saggy, though it doesn't show much in this particular pic.
Here is my new venture. Still only got to drive it around the block. It now sits at the mechanics waiting for an evaluation on what all it needs to make her safe. It'll either be sold or ?? Depends on what we find. It needs a hard top and doors... that's for certain. Anyone got any advise on what works best for top and doors? I've been checking out these guys: http://www.rallytops.com/jeep/cj7.html I still have to find the solid 1/2 doors though. The seats HAVE to GO! I'm thinking black seats would look way better. ;-)
You are right, that does look good in pictures and right again, the seat must go back to the Lincoln or whatever they came out of.
Welcome to the forum and can I offer a suggestion? Start and maintain one thread on this and the other jeeps you have or will have. Keep it up to date. That way you're not chasing your threads all over the place hoping to find your responses. Just a thought.
Squirrelly steering? Look for extended front shackles, loose ubolts on the axle and clunky worn joints like others have said. Every little worn part adds up to one big worn part.
