I love seeing CJ's and love working on mine even though its more of a frankenstein now that a stock CJ. I see all the CJ's on here, and am wondering if it bothers anyone else when they see diamond plate all over a rig. I'm sorry but it is the ugliest plating I think anyone could install on a vehicle. Anyone else agree?

Can you define "all over"? I certainly do not want to offend anyone.

Your good brother. Just not a fan of Diamond Plate. The PO of mine had these god aweful steps on mine that were all diamond plate. So when I see a Jeep covered in it, I just shake my head.

I've got a CJ5 with probably a dozen sheet metal scabs pop-riveted on to patch the sides. My parts jeep has 1/4" diamond plate steel down both sides, held on with eight or so carriage bolts each. This isn't stainless or aluminum, but mild steel. It's been painted a forest green to match the rest of the jeep and I don't think it looks so bad. I'm hanging on to the pieces since they are already cut to the right shape, probably won't rust beyond salvage in my lifetime, and I'll be needing something for my working jeep pretty soon.

Now running a Chevy 350 engine, 1973 Trans-Am Shaker hood reversed to be a functional scoop. 31 x 10.50 tires on aluminum wheels, Bestop Thermal heated seats, Hard top, Soft top, recent 1 piece rear axles. More of a Jeep HOT ROD than anything else!! LOL

Taking off the Hardtop this weekend!!! better get warm quick!
Looks good man! What kind of wheels are those?

Here is my 1984. This is pretty much how it is right now. Installing a 2100 Carb hopefully this week. I am sick of trying to go wheeling with the carter carb.

I also love seeing CJs and working in mine. I don't care for the any plating really, but to each there own. The only mods I like to the body are tail lights. Recessed circular ones. Other than that, suspension, bumpers, drivetrain, etc I like to see. Don't get me wrong, I love stock and hardcore CJs, but there is something to a mildly well-built CJ with a stock body that's just aesthetically pleasing.

Vintage (20+ years ago) photos of my CJ5. Still driving it every day although it doesn't look this good.

^^ I agree. And to me, there is a point at which you can cross a line from being a Jeep to being a highly modified 4x4. You can add performance and style while still keeping the factory look.

I have to completely agree. First of all diamond plate is a thing of the past and sometimes it is better to leave it there. Second be more creative. And last if you want to add some armor great, just stay far away form any of the diamond plate.
