At first glance that looks ready for anything. See what it'll do first before you start "just emptying every pocket" on it. Good rig.

Welcome to the madness Bill - hope to see you out around China Hat or down by Christmas Valley sometime!

With our weather I would say the first thing will be a good top and doors. After that a winch and some place to hang gas cans and you will be ready to go!

So... I got antique tags on the old girl and now I can roll legal again. I ditched the 33's for some 31s and steelies. I like it. More road friendly.
Other than being happy to drive it again, I'm not sure what the future holds for this CJ. The hardcore wheeling days are probably over, nowhere to wheel around here.

Just joined, been reading the board for awhile. I've owned 3 Postal Jeeps, this is my first CJ and so far I'm enjoying it. Picked it up a month ago, not sure if the old owner was a board member or not. Fixing up little things on it, and I found some frame rust in the back so a frame cap should be here tomorrow via UPS. It runs decent, has a strong AMC 360 with a 3 speed. Mostly a dunes toy though, it only has 3.54 gears and open diffs. I have a locker for the AMC 20, might throw that in and swap over to 1 piece axles.

Welcome to the best Jeep forum on the web!

That's a clean looking '7 you got there, and it doesn't look familiar, as I don't recall seeing it posted here before.

Keep us updated with your progress and pics!

Thanks man. It's a bit of a perfumed pig (who POR-15's a frame with rust holes in it????), and the body has lots of bondo in it, although it's still the original steel tub. I put the chrome grill on it last week, when I picked it up it was spraybombed black and didn't look very attractive.

I'm sure I'll have additional questions along the way! After the frame fix I have to drill out a broken steering box bolt, then I'll start with improvements. The 3 speed gear spacing and 3.54's with 33's suck, but I can't decide if I want to leave it as is, or rip most of the driveline out and go with a newer 4 or 5 speed trans, stronger axles, and driveshafts. We'll see, I hear these things turn into money pits in a hurry.
