Adding the strip worked waaayyy better than expected. The pics really don't do the quality of the blue light justice. And the Chinese LEDS are pretty cool - and cheap. It takes about 14 -20 days to get them - but at the price they can't be beat.

I'd encourage anyone to this upgrade. The strips are multi-color and with a little wiring and a three position swirch you could choose from red, green or blue, heck you could mix 'em if you wanted to get real fancy....

Last picture taken not long after I got it, stock everything. First pic is taken not long before I started my resto.
Then how it was tonight after I tooled down for the day. Getting close. Thought I'd put on the Jeep decals, nice.
Thinking about doing a build thread...

Looks good! Where did you get the Jeep decals in the third picture?

How do you get them inside the gauges?

Crow bar, dynamite and a tampon. But not in that order.

I think it was Mr. Strenk that has a great documented teardown of the speedo - just followed his directions, removed the guts and glued the led strip.

Wired it thru/to one of the orginal illumination sockets - voila!

Let me know if you have any other questions - I'll look for the teardown tomorrow and add a link....

Cool thanks. Are all your gauges wired to 1 switch?

All run off the headlight switch/dimmer just as they normally would. Of the illumination bulbs that twist lock into the back of the speedo (4 I think?) all but one is an LED, the last we hollowed out and ran wires into the cluster to power the LED strip. On a painless, the wires were orange and black....

It was really simple - the socket protects the wires as they pass into the metal speedo housing.

Mr. Strenks (12 volt genius) page for speedo R&R: http://home.roadrunner.com/~john.str...e/RRSPEEDO.htm
