Pic of my 1985 CJ-7

I'm new to this forum but not new to Jeeps. Here is a pic of my CJ. I owned it when I lived in AZ but had to leave her for 4 years with a buddy. Got her last May and repainted it over the winter. This is now in WI.

Yeah the salt does reek havok on vehicles. Even being an AZ vehicle it entire life(I knew the original owner) it still had some rust on it under the roll cage mounting points. Apparently when they were built the cage was put in BEFORE they painted the tub so rust began immediately and even in the dry deserts they still rusted when it rained or simply by going thru the car wash with leaky door seals. I do not plan to drive it in the winter. Beside the salt, CJ heaters really suck. I had a 1977 CJ in highschool and even with a hard top and doors I still froze.

Thanks lostj,
I pretty much purchased this as is a couple years ago for a song and a whistle. I was actually going to do a reverse build with my daughter and make it streetable for her and with her. I believe it to be someone's build out of New Mexico. With the wide track front and the narrow rear and the wide tires it's just not street friendly. However, talk about low end grunt and off road ability it's damn near unstopable. I had a new tub lined up and just decided the HO DOG has to much characture as it sits. Dynatrac and Warn parts sye and custom shafts, thottle on the dash, dual fuel pumps. It's just tons of fun and will literally climb a wall.

I like that color on yours.

Garry

I bought my first CJ this morning after previously owning 4 FSJ's in the last five years, pretty cool 4x4's as well.

My 83 has a GM 151 and 4 speed, almost "0" rust with the exception of surface rust on the drivers floor board and the windshield frame. I found no accident damage and the only metal I may replace is the bed floor that looks like the back of a farm pickup. It's all original, with all stock parts and it runs ok.

I picked up a carb kit, slave kit, wires, plugs and rotor and will get u-joints, brakes, gear oil and motor oil and filter this weekend. I will spend the next month or so replacing must have items and addressing anything safety related until I get it titled.

I have been looking at CJ's since the 90's but only in the last two years became serious. I burned a lot of fuel and time looking at potential projects and this one will be an awesome baseline.
