Thanks bama,

If his rack had a little more mass, I would have considered mounting him. Instead, his horns will hang in my barn with the rest of the racks that didn't quite make "the wall".

With the bull elk I killed 3 weeks ago (picture a few pages back) and this deer, my freezer is filling up nicely. If I fill my Kansas whitetail tag in a few weeks, I'll be set for meat for the year.

deer hoist/gun rack

I built this hoist the other day. I've had one for a couple of years, but needed to redo it. My older bros have had them for years. Just hook your pulley to the hook and winch it up and drive back to camp.

Someone asked also about mounting a gun rack. This is my mount. Used 2 existed dash mount holes to mount it to. Butt of gun just rests on the floorpan.

Heading to Lone Cone Mountain Wednesday (Colorado) on a 10 day Elk hunt!!Can't wait!!

I'm not a hunter, I've had a IL. FOID card for years. I have been told, by 2 different people applying for cards, that the fifth question on the application, is "are you mentally retarded"

Any other states like this, or just wonderful Illinois.

Murph... that's cool! Nice work and a good creation. I won't let my wife see it cause she'll stop packing out my deer! I'd be excited about the Elk hunt too. Someday I hope to bowhunt for them, or even Caribou. Always wanted to get a Caribou during archery.

Nope. I guess all the retards are in Illinois!! (sorry, Bill- I couldn't help that!)

In Florida it asks if you are a convicted felon, and it also asks if you are an illegal alien!!

After work and church, this is what we did today. Large plot (325 yards) and small plot (125 yards). Mix of Iron Clay peas, oats, ryegrass, millet, wild bird seed, and turnips. Me spreading and Jeff dragging it in with my little 1710 Ford (walking up the plot). Muzzeloading opens next weekend... hmmmmm!

Most of them are, some are real close.
Question #11 have you been adjudicated ( had to Google it) as a mental defective.

Hey Skerr, get that boy a ram rod he can use. I never use the rods that come with the rifles, they are just too damn short to get a good "ball seat" Buy/make one that's about 10" longer than your barrel and make sure you can change the tips. For $12 bucks you can get a synthetic rod with a couple of tips, they just make it so much easier. Also, toss an old towel on the ground and set the butt on the towel. Have him hold the rifle with his knees. And PLEASE ask him to get his face away from that barrel when loading. I grew up on military bases that only allowed shotguns or primitive weapons. It only took me one season and I made the switch to my T/C 50 cal. Even with iron sights, I was deadly out to 100 yds. Have fun with the boys and good luck

Hey Duc,
Thanks for the comments. We are using a synthetic ramrod with a T-handle. The T makes it very nice. It would be a pain without it! Good point in keeping his face away... one that I adhere to. So I stand admonished, and I appreciate it. I was caught up in the photo taking that I hadn't really noticed. At 25 yards, with the broken front fiber optic, it was off .5". With the rest, the holes cut each other. I was concerned about the grouping as the PO had let the barrel get rusty. It took a lot of scrubbing to clean it up.

Thanks Skerr, they do work good. My older brother, years ago, had stands mounted on their Jeeps. Mounted on the back and would fold down towards the front. They'd just drive to their spot, stand it up, pin it, and climb on up to their little banana bike seat. Killed lots of deer.

Hitting the road to Colorado at noon tomorrow!

That's cool! I was thinking along the lines of something like that for my golf cart. Once had a friend with an old Scottsdale pickup who mounted a scissor lift to the bed. Pull the handle and lift yourself 12'... the whole truck bed.

Be safe on the road, Dude... and good luck. Bring back some success pics... or you're lying!!

I thought I'd share a small video clip of a bull elk my brother shot last year in northwestern Colorado with a muzzle loader. For reference, my brother is 6'2" tall.
